On Tuesday, February 7th, 2012, I took and passed mei permit test! I did not get my certificate that day, due to some minor complications, but lookee what came in the mail today! Huzzah!
Driving, to me, means getting from point A to point B via a very large, dangerous mode of transportation. It means having to remember that the windshield wipers are controlled by this switch, and the high beams with that one. It means thinking about how a huge highway sign could come crashing down and sever the car in two. About how the man in front of you could have a stroke at any time. And how the guy in back of you swerving all over the place is scaring you witless. And how it's nice to someday be able to be a bit more independent. And how I wish I were the only one on the highway.
But seeing as I have never sat in the driver's seat of the car while it's actually MOVING, I guess I have to wait and see what else it means.
Driving to me is freedom. It's a thrill to be the one in control of speed! Also, it allows you to get from one place to another in a quick and, somewhat, east fashion. I also love the idea of the difficulty in trying to master parallel parking. Driving is fun. That's one way to sum it up!
True, driving brings freedom. But one thing they definitely hammered home with me in Drivers' Ed was the seriousness of driving. I just never realized how many accidents are caused unnecessarily... many with fatal results. In the single mistake of a single moment, lives can be wiped out or permanently scarred. I expect there is some thrill. Unfortunately we live in a country where "thrill" supersedes common sense.
Bout time!! You should make a post on "What does driving mean to you?"
